WA Attorney-General John Quigley's application to correct his Federal Court evidence in the defamation trial between Clive Palmer and Premier Mark McGowan is an "incredible" request from the state's chief law officer.

Mr Quigley's extraordinary request to "do over" what were described as mistakes in testimony he gave under oath earlier this month was strongly opposed Mr Palmer's lawyers at a special urgent hearing in Sydney on Thursday.

High-profile lawyer Bret Walker SC, who represents Mr McGowan in the case, told the hearing Mr Quigley notified him he had given “wrong, incorrect or mistaken answers” during cross-examination from Peter Gray SC.

6PR Breakfast host Gareth Parker said on Friday it was an "incredible" request from the "chief law officer in our state".
