A Kununurra man says he's lucky to be alive today and will take the day off work after being attacked by a 1.5m saltwater crocodile while swimming at Buttons Crossing in the Kimberley on Saturday.

Kyle Hutchinson told Millsy & Karl on 6PR Breakfast he was bitten after stepping into a hole where the croc was hiding, but still made it to the pub a few hours later to celebrate surviving the ordeal.

"Yeah sure did mate, it had to be done," he said. "A few people came in and had a yarn."
