One-punch assault victim Danny Hodgson sustained critical injuries when he was punched in an unprovoked attack near the Perth city train station on September 5 last year.

The rising UK soccer player fought for his life for three months, and even longer to get back on his feet and walk unassisted through intensive physio and rehabilitation.

In his first live interview since the attack, Hodgson told 6PR Breakfast host Mark Gibson, in for Gareth Parker this week, the overwhelming support from West Australians as well as several EPL players abroad kept his spirits high during his brave recovery from extensive brain injuries.

"Without the people of Western Australia, I'd be in a different situation at the moment," he said on Friday, with his father Peter by his side in the studio.
