Surf Life Saving WA is converting an old backpackers in Margaret River to a high-end surf lifesaving training facility.

President Craig Smith-Gander said plans were under way for the new facility, which would to be open for all surf clubs to use for training camps, meetings and the like.

"We've got two surf clubs down there in Smith's Beach and Margaret River and we wanted to provide a bit more support to them," he told Breakfast host Gareth Parker.
