Queen Elizabeth II, world’s longest-reigning monarch has died aged 96, Buckingham Palace has announced.

The ceremonial duties of proclaiming a new monarch will be handled by an Accession Council, which will gather at St James’s Palace.

Nine News correspondent Tracy Vo, in London, told Gareth Parker on 6PR Breakfast the scenes were much different than when Princess Diana died and the English weather was playing its part.

"A beautiful moment as well, with a rainbow going over Buckingham Palace, and then the news broke and it has been pouring with rain," she said.
