Australian Nurses Union boss Janet Reah won't attend an Industrial Relations Commission meeting this morning ahead of a planned nurses strike today, fearing they'll try keep her there so she doesn't attend the 11am rally.

Reah told 6PR Breakfast hosts Millsy & Karl the IRC asked her to call off the strike to preserve patient safety, which she denied, stating critical nurses will remain at their post today.

"The union has been talking, but the final straw was the ban on bus drivers picking up nurses," she said.

Reah says the WA government's offer is "divisive", not fair for all nurses and threatened "naughty nurses".

A planned event tonight to celebrate nurses was forced to be cancelled.

Reah claims the nurses are being "treated like a joke" and that the McGowan government will have "blood on the hands", not the union, for any deaths that result of today's strike.
