Batgirl has become the latest film to be added to a growing list of films on the cutting room floor.

The $US90 million film was shot and largely edited but the whole thing will be consigned to dust.

Deakin University film, TV and animation lecturer Sian Mitchell has written a piece about other movies that, like Batgirl, never saw the big screen... or any screen for that matter.

"It's such a massive sum of money," she told Gareth Parker on 6PR Breakfast about the loss film studios took on when cancelling films at the last minute.
