A sea container has been returned to a local junior footy club after a bizarre scam resulted in the 20-foot metal object being stolen in broad daylight and in front of witnesses.

The theft was mentioned in the 6PR Breakfast John Hughes Hyundai Rumour File last week, and following a few days of public confusion, the "owner" of the container returned it to the club.
