5@5: Would Eric Berry be an upgrade over Ha Ha Clinton-Dix for Bears?

View descriptionShare

Mike Mulligan and David Haugh conducted the daily 5 at 5 segment, which began with a discussion about the Bears moving up to select quarterback Mitchell Trubisky with the No. 2 pick in the 2017 NFL Draft. Legend has it that a handful of coaches believed Texas Tech quarterback Patrick Mahomes was a generational talent heading into the draft. One of them was Saints coach Sean Payton. When the Chiefs learned of Payton's plan to take Mahomes at No. 11, they traded up and took him at No. 10. Should Payton have spared for his former director of player personnel and current Bears general manager Ryan Pace the "career black eye" of Trubisky by turning him onto Mahomes? Would Chiefs coach Andy Reid have done it for his former offensive coordinator and current Bears coach Matt Nagy? The guys then had a conversation about Bears receiver Allen Robinson's recent tweet regarding free-agent safety Eric Berry in which Robinson suggested the combination of Berry and Chicago free safety Eddie Jackson "would be crazy." Berry sat out the entire 2019 season. Did Robinson diss current Bears strong safety Ha Ha Clinton-Dix? Would Berry be an upgrade? The morning crew also shared its reaction to the Bulls' tribute Monday evening to Lakers legend Kobe Bryant, who was among nine people killed in a helicopter crash Sunday morning in Calabasas, Calif. The guys then discussed the NBA's decision to postpone the Lakers-Clippers game Tuesday before sharing their SoxFest takeaways. Finally, they discussed the polar opposite offseasons of the Cubs and Reds. Chicago was 8-11 against Cincinnati in 2019. Given what the Cubs have lost and the Reds have gained, do you believe the results of the season series will be different? (1/28/20)
