Mike Mulligan and David Haugh conducted the daily 5 at 5 segment, which began with a discussion about their level of trust in Cubs president of baseball operations Theo Epstein. Should Epstein and the Cubs be committed to getting something in return for star third baseman Kris Bryant before he presumably leaves in free agency in 2021 or be committed to trying to win another World Series with Bryant before then? The guys then had a discussion about the Cubs' list of non-roster invitees to big league camp in spring training. Is reliever Brandon Morrow the most intriguing name? The morning crew also discussed whether the White Sox should be content with Danny Mendick and Leury Garcia holding down second base until touted prospect Nick Madrigal joins the big league roster. Or should they pursue a veteran infielder? The guys then debated whether all-time hits leader Pete Rose will ever be reinstated by MLB and whether he'll ever be considered a Baseball Hall of Fame candidate. Finally, the guys discussed whether Pistons guard Derrick Rose dropping out of the skills challenge and Bulls guard Zach LaVine's declining to compete in the dunk contest diminishes All-Star weekend in Chicago.
