5@5: Will Kris Bryant be in Cubs' lineup on Opening Day?

View descriptionShare

Mike Mulligan and David Haugh conducted the daily 5 at 5 segment, which began with a discussion about star third baseman Kris Bryant losing his service time grievance against the Cubs. If the Cubs are about winning this season, why would they trade Bryant now? The guys then debated whether they believe Bryant will be in the Cubs' lineup on Opening Day before having a discussion about reporting by Gordon Wittenmyer of the Sun-Times that there are no hard feelings between the former MVP and the team. The morning crew also reacted to the news that Bears quarterback Mitchell Trubisky had surgery to repair a torn labrum in his left (non-throwing) shoulder. Is that reason enough to get an upgrade at the quarterback position? If so, should the Bears sign a free agent, trade for a player or just draft a quarterback? The guys then discussed how Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes' celebrity status would be affected if he played in a bigger market. Finally, they discussed whether the Bulls "got jobbed" in their 115-106 overtime loss to the Pacers on Wednesday night. Officials didn't call a foul when Indiana guard Victor Oladipo appeared to hit Chicago guard Zach LaVine on his final drive with the game tied in the waning second of regulation. (1/30/20)
