5@5: Do you believe Joe Maddon or Theo Epstein?

View descriptionShare

Mike Mulligan and David Haugh conducted the daily 5 at 5 segment, which began with a discussion about former Cubs manager Joe Maddon citing "philosophical differences" for leaving the organization and indicating he knew by midseason he would be exiting. Cubs president of baseball operations Theo Epstein believes Maddon's version of the story conflicts with what actually took place. Whose perspective do you think rings most true? Can both versions be true? Has Maddon given his final say on his departure from Chicago? The guys then discussed whether the Cubs' addition of veteran Jason Kipnis on a minor league deal will block 22-year-old Nico Hoerner from extended playing time at second base. Is signing Kipnis a smart move in a season in which the Cubs need to develop young players? The morning crew also shared its biggest questions surrounding the White Sox as pitchers and catchers report to training camp Wednesday. Later, the guys debated whether new Cubs manager David Ross or White Sox manager Rick Renteria will have a bigger impact on his respective team. And will the biggest impact come by making in-game decisions or creating a culture? (2/12/20)
