In honour of International Holocaust Remembrance Day, Dahlia Kurtz replays her conversation with 98-year-old Holocaust survivor Morris Schnitzer. This is the last time he shared his story publicly before his death. 

While his life could be a movie, it’s already a book. To survive WWII and evade the Nazis, Morris lived under assumed identities in various parts of Western Europe. He went on to become a world-renowned researcher and recipient of many awards around the world. His story serves as an example of strength, bravery, inventiveness and integrity in today’s edition of The Goods.

He died in Ottawa on June 9 at the age of 98. The advice his father had given him in 1938: “We must never give in. We have to always fight oppression. Never give in.” 

Dr. Morris Schnitzer also authored two memoirs, Escape from the Edge and My Three Selves.
