Max du Preez has spent more than five decades reporting on South African politics and history. From founding the anti-apartheid Afrikaans newspaper Vrye Weekblad and investigating the apartheid security establishment, to producing the SABC’s Truth Commission Special Report and Special Assignment, his career has taken him through some of the country’s most significant political moments. He later returned to Vrye Weekblad when it was relaunched digitally in 2019, while continuing his work as an author and commentator. His career and writing provide a window into South Africa’s political and media history.
