Former ANC MP Vincent Smith was sentenced to an effective 7 years behind bars for corruption, the first high-profile politician to see the inside of a jail cell since the State Capture report was handed to President Cyril Ramaphosa in 2022. While this marks a milestone in the fight against corruption, there are concerns over the slow pace at which graft-related matters are being concluded before the courts.
