Federal Liberal National Party politicians have stepped in to demand a pause on the planned June 2027 total gillnet ban in North Queensland, backing commercial fishers who are fighting for their survival against strict regulations. 

Queensland Seafood Industry Association CEO David Bobberman joined Gary Hardgrave on 4BC Mornings and argued that 100% onboard camera monitoring proves local fishing is fully sustainable, warning that shutting down local operations will force consumers to rely on imported fish.
