Australia's tradie shortage is becoming more apparent, raising questions about where young people are finding employment. 

Paul Hillberg from Apprenticeships Queensland told Shane Doherty on Summer Drive, "We have seen a bit of a decline over the last five years in applicants."

"Retail is sucking up a lot of the youth applicants or people who have newly left school... because there's been a higher demand for retail or hospitality employees and they can earn a couple dollars more immediately," Mr Hillberg continued.
