North Queensland is currently in the middle of catastrophic floods and dire conditions which don't look like easing.

Ingham has received over 400 millimetres of rain in the past 24 hours, leading to major flooding along the Herbert River. 

The collapse of the Ollera Creek Bridge on the Bruce Highway has isolated Ingham, complicating the delivery of essential supplies. 

Member for Hinchinbrook Nick Dametto told Peter Fegan on 4BC Breakfast, "I would say every one of those insurance companies right now that are considering their fiscal position on a natural disaster that's really ripped the lives apart of North Queenslanders, we'll be watching you very closely over the next couple of days."

"We go for years without insurance claims up here in North Queensland, so when we do need your help, we'll be turning to you and if you aren't there to help out insurance companies, we'll be after you."
