The Royal Commission into Veteran Suicide has finally been handed down with the report finding that 1677 serving and former defence personnel have died by suicide between 1997 and 2021.

This is more than 20-times the number killed in active duty over the same period.

Additionally, the report revealed that 800 sexual assaults have been recorded within the ADF in the last five years, with 60 per cent of cases believed to have not been reported.

Julie-Anne Finney, who sadly lost her Royal Navy son David to suicide in 2019, told Peter Fegan on 4BC Breakfast, 'I'm incredibly grateful for the amount of recommendations that have been accepted by the government.'

'If this isn't lip service, then I believe we're going to go a long way to saving lives,' she said.
