But last week we spoke to the amazing Jack who obviously works on Hot one hundred here in our building about the Lakeimia Foundation, World's Greatest Shave Now. She's a blood cancer survivor. She spoke about the impact of living with the illness as a teenager and the support and the research that's undertaken by the Lakemia Foundation, and why it is so important to get involved in the World's Greatest shave. Now around Australia, I know that there's some very brave people shaving their heads for this worthy cause. And I know one of the amazing Territorians who's actually shaving her head for a cause.

She's a very.

Well known Territorian and a friend of mine. It is the beautiful Kate Killner joining me in the studio. Good morning to UK.

Katie, Thank you so much and what a gorgeous studio.

I know, a nice news studio that we've got now. It is amazing. Now, Kate, when I saw that you were shaving your head for a good call, I thought, do you know what? You're such a wonderful person who does so many nice things for others that I you know, I thought, what a legend? What made you decide to do it.

Well, a family member in Perth had a week between being sick and the diagnosis. So it's really hard because you want to do something, you know what I mean? And I think, if I'm out there wants to do something, and what do you do? Like, it's that kind of do you phone them? Do you what do you offer them? You know, if there's anything you need, let us know. And it's that kind of anyway. So I decided what I'd do was shave my hair. Now I thought it was just a really simple decision, and then I thought, oh gosh, what's my head gonna look like without any Yeah, that's my biggest concern is that I'll have.

Strange well and who knows, Kate, we're having a bit of a laugh about that offair, weren't we, And I was saying, yeah, I wonder if my head's covered in freckles like my faces. I don't know, and you won't know until that head is shaved. But how's your how's your family member feeling in Perth about the fact that you are shaving your head? And do you want to tell me who that family member is? I don't, you know, I don't expect you to tell me anything you're not comfortable.

With a Trent and Emma, so that's his wife there, And it's funny because they're the ones that are affected the most. Yeah, but they're so humble that Territorians are actually reaching into their pockets and donating and they can't express what that does for them that nothing else can. A simple phone call can't do that. And at the moment we're beating act and Tasmania in regards to how much we've that's awesome and so you kind of go, you know, Territorians really know how to dig deep. Yeah, and I'm humbled by it. Like people keep saying, oh, you're a legend and everything. I think, oh, look, I've made the decision. They didn't get to make the decision.

Yeah.

Yeah, I don't have to worry about what Lakeema is doing to my hair. And I've got six weeks. Like my hairdresser says that my hair grows while she's cutting it, so sort of grow fast, so it'll grow fast. Yeah, and gosh is that a small sacrifice?

It is? And it's you know, it's really interesting the point that you'd made. And I think that this happens often is that when you have a family member or a loved one, a friend who is impacted by cancer, blood cancer, any other kind of of terminal illness, you know, you don't quite know what to do to support them, and you don't quite know how to act sometimes or what to say to them. But I know myself when my dad passed away that when I used to see then every year how many people would turn up for run with Dad, it just gave me great comfort that other people care. And I think that even with you shaving your head, it's not only the beautiful gesture of you doing that to support you know, to support them, but it's also then the beautiful gesture of everybody donating money and you go. It means so much that people that maybe aren't part of your everyday life actually care and they want to try and help, and they want to support, and they want to find a cure.

The message is that Lakemia Foundation hopes to and hopes to their goal is by two thousand and thirty five, so ten more years that there will be no lives lost because of it. And so I think for all of us with donations, the hardest part is is you don't want to donate to a black hole. Yep. This money goes specifically to help, and we've been given targets. And I think that's the difference is that I can actually see it's a tangible fundraiser that I can truly see.

Kate, you've already raised an absolute bucket load. What are you at?

Oh no, I'm nearly at seven and a half thousand. So for anyone out there who has some spare change, we'd appreciate it. I was going to lift it up to ten thousand, because ten thousand gives two people who haven't had traditional treatment work. It gives clinical research for two people. And that's at ten thousand, but that might be next year. Yeah, well, see how we go on thousand.

Let's see how we go. So people can head to the Lakemia Foundation website the World's Greatest Shave. They can search Kate Killiner. It's Kate with a C. Now, Kate, when is the hair coming off?

The hair's coming off on Friday at three and one of our five grandchildren is in charge of doing the first shave. And she is so nervous. She said, Grandma, I really like your I said, what's the worst it will happen?

So, Kate, how old is this? Grandpa six? What's her name?

This is Olivia and Charlotte, the three year old who can't wait to get the raiser. We'll do the second shave. Yeah, I'm not getting I'm not getting like. It's not a cutthroat. It's one of those. It's a number one yea yeah, yeah, yeah yeah yeah, So she can't yeah, where the twelve year old wants to do? Raiser?

You know, wants to give your wiping bolts.

On the side of my head. First, let's leave for pony at the back. Have you seen those rat style?

Don't do that.

I just will not be walking past him. I won't be doing anything for six weeks.

Kate, you're so beautiful from the inside out that I have no doubt that you are going to rock that shaved head.

No.

I think it's wonderful what you're doing. Yeah, thank you so much much for joining me on the show this morning. It's lovely to see you, lovely to talk to you. Thanks, thank you.
