More than 2,200 candidates from 45 political parties missed the Electoral Commission's August 28 deadline to submit their details for the November 4 local government elections. The ANC is challenging the decision, arguing that some candidate information had been captured on the IEC's online system but that technical problems prevented final confirmation. National Chairperson of the United Democratic Movement (UDM) and PR Councillor in the City of Johannesburg, Yongama Zigebe, has been announced as the party's mayoral candidate for Johannesburg in the November Local Government Elections. Zigebe previously served as the UDM's National Secretary-General. The announcement was made by the party's Deputy President, Nqabayomzi Nkwankwa, in Alexandra today. Nkwankwa has encouraged Zigebe to take the UDM's message to communities across the city, saying the party is ready to listen, work and govern. Sibahle Motha reports...
