I don't got them getting out of the first round. But they made it a game last night, so for them, and they did it in Denver, So in Denver, Yeah, stole one, stole.
One in the Male High for them. Go for them. They needed it, they have a chance, they needed it.
Yeah, it's uh, you know, now we've got we'll get to see the Lakers coming up later and you know, I feel like we're in full swing. So we're gonna get NBA playoff games every single night for the next two months basically. So, uh, that was it was a fun one. The Pistons beat the Knicks last night. Uh, Cad Cunningham's a stud and Detroit even zat series. So they'll send that back to Detroit. And by the way, Detroit has been one of the more entertaining teams to watch all year long because you just never know when there's going to be a stuff. They're similar to Houston, so that should get a little bit spicy there between those two teams. Also, so fun stuff last night. And then you know the gift that keeps on giving. Nico Harrison, the GM of the Dallas Mavericks, the guy who authored up one of the more puzzling trades in the history of the sport.
He spoke yesterday and he talked with the media about his.
Decision to trade Luca, and he went on to reveal that he was not aware of the impact that might have on the fan base there in Dallas, and was asked a very pointed question in the middle of the conversation.
I did know that Luca was important to the to the fan base, I didn't quite know it to what level. But really the way we looked at it is, you know, if you're putting on the if you're putting a team on the floor, that's Kyrie, Clay, PJ, Anthony Davis and Lively. We've so that's a championship caliber team, and we would have been winning at a high level and that would acquieted some of the outrage. Uh And so unfortunately we weren't able to do that. So it just continued to, you know, go.
On and on.
Why shouldn't you be fired?
One?
I think I've done a really good job here and I don't think I can be judged by the injuries this year. You have to judge from totality from beginning to end, and so I think I have a really good working relationship with Patrick, I think you had in Rick. The leadership that we have is really elite. And you'll see next year when our team comes back, we're going to be competing for a championship.
So there's there's Nico Harrison straight up why shouldn't you be Why should you be fired?

Know that the decision was not a great one to trade Luca when one of the questions is so, why shouldn't you be fired? Like like not like, hey, so what do you think of the job you've done here? No, like you tell us why you shouldn't be clipped after this year? So he's having to wear it right now?
Can I pose this question? Though? Yeah, why can't we just wait and see how this works out?
I mean, this is a team that went to the conference finals and the NBA Finals and another season and wasn't the play in this year. It's like we just like, wait to see how this plays out instead of just immediately saying this guy stinks, we need to fire him. Terrible decisions, Like okay, hold on for a second. Can we see how he builds the roster. They've been a good basketball team since he took over and they've been competitive. Granted with Luca, can we see what things look like without them next season? Like, what's what's wrong with that?
It's fair because the injuries are not his fault, like Anthony Davis going down as early as he did. Now you could say, well, he's had injury history. But all right, I mean, listen, there were there were conditioning concerns about Luca Kyrie's injury. That's just that's terrible luck. And it seemed like everything fell apart after that.
I do think.
Though, that if you take over that job, your goal is to how do we build around Luca? Like that should be point one goal number one, and instead it was he's gone.
But that's your opinion. You might look at it and say, that's not the guy we want to build around. We'd rather get someone like Ad to pair with Kyrie, to pair with Claye Thompson to you know, how this is the construct of what we feel like we need to win. I mean, the opening game loss to the Timberwolves, what was the thing they needed the most? Probably a true center. Yeah, I mean that was at least the recap of the game. How a lot of people looked at it like, oh, it would have been nice if the Lakers had a true center, it's not there for them anymore. I'm just saying we tend to make these hot takes in a vacuum. It just we have no patience for waiting to see how this is going to play out.
It's not like I mean, if that Lakers don't.
Make it out of the series, are people gonna be frustrated with Luca? Are they to be flush frustrated with Lebron? How do you look at the Lakers in that instance.
Yeah, they're going to judge Lebron more than they're going to judge Luca. But I'll say to answer your question, no, people don't want to wait to see because we live in the now generation and.
It's very very instant people. Did you like that?
They just people want what they want now. It's very instant, instant gratification, instant results, instant everything. And if it's not what you want then because the way today's you know, generations are being classically conditioned. It's I need a solution and I want results and I want it now. And that's you know, I think that that's what a lot of these gms, it's a lot of what these owners are facing. It's a lot of what these players are facing, and we're seeing it play out in different ways. We're seeing it play out from the general manager's perspective, We're seeing it play out from the contract negotiations perspective for the players, the agents, and the organizations. Hell, we're seeing it with retirements of jerseys. So it's just a very instant, instant time frame, instant time period we're in right now and just looking at what took place with Dallas, whether they were going to build around Luca or not. You know, Anthony Davis definitely could be considered to be comparable in terms of an exchange in a trade. It was a mega trade, one of the biggest trades ever. Question Marks surrounded both players in some categories. But to say you didn't realize what the value of Luca was to the fan base, I would say that that might have been the most poorly played part of it. To think that you would get rid of one of the youngest, brightest stars and out of your organization and think that there wouldn't be any type of backlash or repercussions connected to just moving him, I think that's that's a horrible underestimation. Of the value of what type of player Luka Doncic is. So I think that was to me. Outside of that, I didn't have anything. I didn't have any problems with what Nico's you know what his response was, that's starting five that he named. That is an elite starting five. That is a championship caliber starting five. And he has done a great job. But at the end of the day, just because you've done a great job, if you make a decision and that decision doesn't yield you that instant, that instant bang, that boom impact effect, then people are going to have things to say because we're now in a day and age where people are very comfortable passing judgments on what people's jobs are and how they do them.
There's just gotta be more to that story with him and Luca and what do you think it is.
You're trying to dig in deep here.
They went, you know, on the surface, basically almost fat shamed the guy after he left his conditioning his cardio all that it must have been so bad.
So you're saying it's because he was white, is what you want to say? A white guy for bringing a black athlete rights.
I mean, can we run down can you say what you mean? Can we can we use that as the headline please? Because you want to talk about views that'll move it. They had an issue with the match color. This is the NBA after all, tang. I just there's got to be more to what has been reported that as well. You know, defense wins championships.

One of the better young talents we've seen in the league in the last X amount of years.
Like, that's a guy that you would, I'm.
Assuming, want to partner with moving forward. Like that's the guy you try and keep and build around, ad defensive pieces around him, trying to and there was no perspective.
They brought him to the Lakers, and now he's the instant face of the Lakers team that has the face arguably of the NBA on their team.
How does that work? So to your point, you're you're right.
I mean, he's got so much cashay, he's got so much potential, he's got so much star power that he is now deemed the face of this LA Lakers team. Why would you give that away? We're not saying that about Anthony Davis going to Dallas? Are we are we saying, Anthony Davis is the face of the Dallas Maverick that's Jack's town.

Well, I think they could have gotten more that Like Mark Cuban, one of his initial thoughts was, you know, I thought we could have gotten more, Like there was like either another first I forget the exact.

What's the worst part about being fired? Mmm, well, it depends on how it's done. Have you ever been fired? Yeah, you have been fired. Yeah, you get cut, cut as fire. Yeah. How do make you feel? I was more caught off guard by it because of the timing of everything, and honestly had a good preseason so I was like, oh okay, and I knew I was going to sign like almost immediately, so it didn't bother me quite as much.
In the year eight.
That's what bothered me the most because on the way in when I talked to the Dolphins in training camp, I had a chance to go up and go to training camp with the Patriots.
I had worked out.
With them, and we were talking with them, and I'm like in the player's lounge of the Dolphins, and it was a whole fiasco.
Like my agent was flying.
At the time, so there's no like he was on like a long flight cross country, so there's no way I could call him and talk to him. The Dolphins were trying to sign me and I'm trying to figure out like do I want to do this or do I want to wait and try to go up to New England, which at that point in time, I was like, it's not It wasn't even about if I was going to make like the New England roster or not. In my mind, I was like, I wanted to be around Tom. I wanted to be like in a training camp with him. I wanted to be around Bill Belichick. And that was when they saw Ryan Mallet, so there's a chance of like depending on how many they were going to keep. And I knew the system, so all those things were lining up to like this that would have made way more sense. And at the time I just got married, my in laws lived up there, so it kind of made sense for our family too, at least for my wife and I. And it ended up working out where I was. I was living in South Florida, so I was like, all right, I'll just kind of stay here and do this. And I knew Joe Joe Filman as the coach, but the general manager at the time, you know, kind of ballatantly lied about just what the situation was and even the opportunity, which you know, he was goin I.
Think a kind of a one and done GM, which was fine.
But when he did it, I was just like, it was more of like I literally kind of scolded him. I was like, dude, just be a man. I'm like, we knew. We had a conversation on the way going in, and I said, and this was not what you presented it to be, and so I said, I kind of just said to him, I was like, other players just want the truth, man, I was like, that's all this about. I was like, don't sugarcoat, don't try to hide it, don't do things for your un selfish needs. I was like, just presented them what the actual truth is. I was like, and they'll be able to handle that. And then he didn't know how to handle that, like someone actually saying that to him, and he looked like a little bit like petrified.
So was what it was?
Upset helped him? No, No, they were. They were all fired after that year, So I don't think he helped anyone.
Yeah, it's always discrontal when when it's not, you know, that's that's the goat for everybody.
Which now, now here's what I'll say to the point, what Jodah's made about Nico. What you realize are oftentimes people who are in those general manager positions or even a leadership position, they're out of touch with the rest of us, Like they're not capable of being social or having like sympathy, empathy, having that eq to be able to relate to people. So in this instance, yeah, it's awful. Then Niko was like, yeah, I was unaware of how much you know? Well, dude, what how how could you be unaware of that? At what point were you unaware of the fact that Luke is one of the best players in the NBA. He's obviously an international player, which even comes with more fan fare and just kind of people think it is cool. It's not just like a normal, you know, United States white guy. He's an international white guy.
He's exotic, first off, doing that, like that's.
Not a real thing. Okay, it is a real thing. It's like Vadi Devoc everyone's dude, he's so cool. He smokes cigarettes like over there, right on the corner. But the truth is, sometimes you get those leaders in those positions that do not know how to relate to the fan base. They don't understand how it's going to be received or even with players like you know, in this case, Michael Finley taking his beer, like, how's how's that going to be taken by by Luca?
In that instance, he must have had real Boozehound. If that supporo was the one that was then, by the way.
Can't speaking of the real boost Lee, How would you feel if someone, if let's say, if Scott Shapiro try to come by and take what you're beer?

Like, way after celebrating like a great year or like a big time event that we pulled off. How would you to take by your take your beer from you?

But I think the reality there is is that I would be bothered no matter what his intentions were, Like, what are you coming into my personal space for taking away the beverage that I chose to have at this moment in time?

You will not, and I repeat, will not go into studio instead, just work from home when they do request you.
No, I mean, if I have projects I'm working on, I'll go into the studio and do them. If I don't, then I'll do something from home. Absolutely, that's correct. Yeah, I'm not that. That is not I'm not going to the shy away from that. That is absolutely one hunder correct.
Do you do you tell them one hundred years old? Do you tell them or do you or do you ask them?
Pete, Well, I mean I get my time off. I mean it's it's in it's in my contract that I get time off. And uh, you know, we we used to get you know, per year, how many years you've been to the company, used to get so many years, and they change so many weeks and they change that. So now it's we work at a company now where you can take as much time off as you want to, as long as you get it approved. So I think, yeah, so I take my time off. By the way I've been there is this. I'll be twenty five years in November.
Yeah, yeah, I'm talking about Hey, longevity, man. This business doesn't give longevity to too many. So good for you, Pete.
I got to ask you, how come people are giving you a hard time about your Mason Graham thoughts?
Now, like, go what happened there? Because I thought you like Dave Whitel too.
I thought you were high on him, and all of a sudden, now people are coming after you for your rankings.
What's going on here?
No, I am high. I am high on him. I think he's a good player. I just I just don't think he's you know, a dominant, dominant player. And by that I mean I don't if you draft him five six, seven eight, you're not getting Jalen Carter getting a good football player. And so that's why I went back and I did more work on him. I've watched more tape on him, and I like him, I don't love him, and I think there's a lot of that in this draft. I think we get a lot of that you like that you don't love, and he is one of them. And look, he's not a big guy. He's not an overpowering guy. He plays with a lot of technique and leverage, and the wrestling background shows up. But I just don't know if he's going to be an elite defensive tackle, which is why there's concerns about him. And so people push back, why did you like him early in the process, Because I went back and watch more of them. That's usually what you do in this process.
So Pete, you do something that's pretty cool. It's your Pete Prisco's better than teams. It's the team that you like better than what the scouts and I guess some of the people are putting together in mock drafts. Give me the biggest guy, like the guy is gonna go the highest on your better than team. Like a guy that not many people are mocking to go in the first round, or not many people are as high on.
As you are in this particular draft.
We'll bring you with that. I try and stay what I try and steer clear of the first round ers. That's ideally try to do, okay, because I mean, there are guys I like in the first round more than maybe than other and and so. Yeah, but they're going to go in the first round. I mean, but I don't put him on this team. And I'll give you an example. I think Simmons Day, offensive tackle from Ohio State, is the best offensive lineman in this draft class.
Yeah, I think.
I mean, he's a When you watch him on tape, Brady, he looks like he weighed two hundred and forty pounds and he's three twenty. Yeah, and so I but so he would be on the team. But he's a first rounder in my book. So I didn't put him on the team. As far as guys on the better than team, the captain is the better than team, which, by the way, in the years past has been some hits, there's been a few misses. But I had Levonte David way back in the day. I had Grady Jarrett way back in the day. My captain this year is Jamari Caldwell, the defensive tackle from Oregon. You look, you put on the tape and you watch Oregon's defense, and I like those guys. I like Harmon, I like Burch a lot, but Caldwell showed up in the biggest way. And I say that because he's a big body guy. He probably needs to drop a few and I think he'll get in better shape because he doesn't look like that. You know, he was in the same shape he wasn't he was with Houston where he had six and a half sax. But he's one of those guys that he plays hard all the time and get up the field to command the double. He's a better pass rusher you to think he is. And I think he's one of those guys third round, somebody's going second. Late in the second round, somebody's going to look at him and go, you know what, they stole him because he's that kind of player, and so he was the captain of the team. He's one of those guys. I would put him at the back end of the first round. I don't think he'll go there.
Pete, you have Travis Hunter going number one, and you made comparisons to Justin Jefferson like type talent, and me and Q had talked about you saying that or writing about it. So you feel like he should go number one. That's the short pick. And do you think that he can be a Justin Jefferson type of talent playing both ways?
Well, I don't know if he's going to play both ways. I know he keeps saying he wants to play both ways, but look, you guys have been in the NFL. You know it's impossible to play both ways except for situationally, and I think he can do that. I think he's a receiver. I initially thought he was a corner, but I think he's going to be a great receiver. And if you're the Tennessee Titan, you said, well, we're not going to pass on a generational talents taken quarterback, Well, yes you are, because you're taking cam Ward, you're not taking Travis Hunter. Travis Hunter is the best player in this draft and it's not close. That's how good he is. And so I think if you're the Tennessee Titans and that mock draft I put out there is who they should take mock draft, I think they should take Travis Hunter. Worry about the quarterback class next year because I'm not a big butt. Look, I like cam Ward, I don't love him, and when you're in a position to take a generational player, you take him. And that's why I put Travis Hunters in the one spot. Yes, he could be a lot like Justin Jefferson.
Uh Pete Prisco joining us here on Fox Sports Radio at Prisco CBS is where you can find him on X. Is there a rumor or something you've heard as far as a move potentially in the draft that is your scratching your head that you don't get one that you totally disagree with.
I don't get the Tyler shuck an infatuation. I don't understand that as a potential first round pick. I just don't see it. You look, he's a big, strong arm kid, but he bounced around about twelve schools, he had some injury histories, he's twenty six years old. I think he's a project. I don't see him being a first round pick and unless and yet you hear people talking about it, which is surprising to me, don't. I don't understand that one at all. As far as you know, guys, here's the thing at the top, A lot of teams. You know, there's teams that would love to move down. Nobody wants to move up, and there's nobody biting on moving up. You look at five, six seven, there's nobody. Nobody has given any indication whatsoever that they want to go up and get into those players, which tells you this is a draft that has from seven to sixty five. There's a lot of guys that are interchangeable. There's not that many stars at the top of the draft, which is why you don't get a lot of people clamoring to go up and get them. So those are a lot of things you're hearing. I don't The quarterback infatuation to me is crazy. I get it. If you don't have one, you got to try and fix it. But if Shador Sanders, Tyler Schuck, you know, mill Row, any of these other guys were in last year's draft, they would have gone behind five of those guys. If they're in next year's draft, they probably go behind five of those guys. So why are you panicking to fix your quarterback situation when you don't have to? And I think that's part of the problem with drafting in the NFL.
Well, yeah, that's what i'd ask.
I mean, long, look, if we're looking at the teams that are drafting outside of Tennessee, which you've been a big proponent of Will Lovis, but they aren't at a spot to take cam Ward, who everyone seems to agree is the best quarterback in this draft class, I guess they can go that route. But for everyone else, I mean, whether it's the New York Giants who went the veteran route, which I know you're not a fan of their veterans, but it doesn't sound like they want to take a quarterback at three. Cleveland won a unique route, they got Peckett Picket, They've got Joe Flacco. Maybe they should still take one, just not in the first round. There the Saints concerns about Derek Carr and his shoulder, so who knows if they end up taking one at that spot. Like when you're really looking at the landscape of who needs a quarterback, Pittsburgh's the only team that really comes to mind, and they're not in striking distance, so they're gonna have to wait essentially until someone falls to them. And that's if Aaron Rodgers decides he does or doesn't want to go there. So I guess my question is do you see Shadoor Jackson dart sliding like all the way out of the first round just because of maybe the lack of need. And then there may be being between Aaron Rodgers or trading for Kirk Cousins some other veteran options.
Yes, I think it's possible. But again, desperation does weird things to teams. I mean, look, if I was evaluating who was the most desperate in your mind, that like you could see taking one that if we're going to say that, you could see taking one that. We're talking about the Giants, and you know, you're starting to hear rumblings around the league that maybe they're back in on shud or Standers, which they shouldn't be, but you're starting to hear some of that as we can eat up to the draft. I just I just don't think that they You know, you got desperate people there. You got desperate guys, you Stable and Joe Shaneer, you know, drafting for the job. So who makes the pick? Does the ownership step in and say, look, we're going to make the pick. This is what you're gonna say, you're gonna take. So I think they're desperate. I think they're the most desperate team of all of them. But if you're sitting there at three and you got a chance to draft ab Duel Carter or Shador Sanders, you take Abdul Carter, you draft, you draft the generational pass rusher and figure it out with how many guys you have there, and then go back and get your quarterback. I just don't understand, you know, pushing this. I wouldn't take Shador Sanders in the first round. I wouldn't take Jackson Dart in the first round. I would take Shark in the first round. And they wouldn't take mill Row in the first round. That's just me, that's my evaluation. I would not take any of them in the first round. I don't love cam Woord. This is not a great quarterback class. Next year you have a chance to have good quarterbacks and really good quarterbacks arch Manning, nous Meyer, Sellers. I mean, there's Levitt, There are guys that can even guys that can emerge next year. So why put yourself in a position where you're drafting a guy that you kind of like but you don't really love and try and fix your quarterback position. I think that's a major mistake.

That was my favorite subtle. I mean they might be on or Sanders, they shouldn't be. Do you follow Paul Hammond? Do you follow ww at Alpete?

You know what, That's one thing I've never watched in my entire life, is WWA. I've never watched, even dating back to when what the back when the Andre the Giant was a big deal. No, I never watched it because you know why, I always knew it was fake. If somebody really hits you over the damn head with a chair, you're going to the emergency room and you're having brain surgery.
