SA: A diagnosis of ALS, Lou Gehrig's disease, is devastating.

KC: It is a very overwhelming experience and really you don't know where to begin.

SA: Kelly Corwen is President of the non-profit organization, MAC Angels.

KC: MAC Angels began in 2010, but was founded as a legacy to a woman named Claire Collier.

SA: A young woman from Larchmont who died from the neurodegenerative disease.

KC: We call the person with ALS our pals and their caregivers. Really our biggest service we provide is that personal level of care, just trying to talk to the families about the disease progression and what the journey will look like.

SA: Case workers help 'pals' and their families all across the New York Metro Area. When it comes ALS there are many challenges.

KC: Just trying to figure out how to address the physical needs with different doctors, clinic appointments, wheelchair accessibility, getting pals to clinic appointments... 

SA: They also have emotion support as people cope with a cruel reality.

KC: Our services team and our social workers are wonderful. They are very caring, dedicated professionals that are doing everything they can to support the families.
