By Newsbreak Producer Tashlan Naidoo - As the country observes National Men's Health Month this June, health experts are urging males to get screened in an effort to prevent and treat any prevailing illnesses.  Men's Health Month focuses on raising awareness about the health challenges confronting men and advocating for early detection and treatment of diseases. According to government, South African men experience a greater share of the total fatal and non-fatal burden of disease, dying at a younger age than females and more often from preventable causes. More women know their HIV status, and have accessed anti-retroviral treatment (ART) than men. It states that TB is the leading cause of death among men, accounting for 57% of all TB deaths recorded. For men aged 45 years and older, Non-Communicable-Diseases (NCD's), such as diabetes and Cerebro-vascular disease are also a leading cause of death. These NCDs, as well as others, are either preventable or at least medically manageable if men access health services early. South African Medical Association (SAMA) Chairperson, Dr Mvuyisi Mzukwa is also calling on men to take their mental health seriously...
