Why EVs may be safer for passengers, but riskier for other drivers

Electric vehicles have spurred lots of conversation surrounding safety and reliability, but experts say it's not as simple as being totally more or less safe than a gas car.

That's because new research finds that while EVs are usually safer for those in the car, they could pose greater risks for other drivers, pedestrians and cyclists.

For more on this, KCBS Radio news anchor Nikki Medoro spoke to Jingwen Hu, mechanical engineering professor and director of the Transportation Research Institute at the University of Michigan who researches impact and injury biomechanics in car crashes.
