As the strike by doctors in Mozambique enters its third week- there are reports that more than 1000 people in the Southern Africa nation have died because of a lack of care amid a health workers' strike.
Members of the Association of United Health Professionals of Mozambique (APSUSM) down tools after negotiations over working conditions, overtime allowances and better medical equipment collapsed. Health infrastructure is limited across Mozambique, with fewer than three doctors per 100-thousand people - one of the lowest doctor-to-population ratios in the world.
